A women’s session in nature – Julia

I met Julia in the late afternoon, when the sun was already beginning to soften and the grasses were catching that warm, golden colour. It was a women’s outdoor session near Gniezno – a little forest, a little open field, and plenty of space to breathe. There was no plan for “perfect photos,” only curiosity about what might happen if we gave ourselves time.

At the beginning, like almost every woman, Julia said that she “didn’t know how to pose” and felt “a little nervous.” That is completely normal, especially when you stand in front of the camera for the first time or after a long break. So before we started photographing, we did a short exercise to help her land in her body: a few breaths, a moment of silence, and noticing how she felt that day. Only then did the camera begin to move.

With each passing minute, the tension began to fade. A simple white dress, a field full of herbs, a little wind in her hair – and suddenly it was clear that we were not “posing,” but becoming part of a story unfolding here and now. This is the moment when women’s photography stops being about poses and starts being about presence.

Why does nature serve a women’s session so well?

Many people who write to me as a photographer in Gniezno immediately add: “just not a studio.” I understand that very well. Nature gives something no interior can offer: the possibility to move, hide in the grasses, look into the distance, lean against a tree, and feel the ground under your feet. When the body has space around it, it becomes easier to let go of control.

During sessions like this one with Julia, we use simple elements: light, the direction of the wind, the texture of plants. There are no complicated poses here, no arranging everything down to the centimetre. This is women’s photography in nature – soft, based on movement, small gestures, and sometimes silence.

If you feel closer to the atmosphere of forests, meadows and the setting sun than to studio lights, this kind of session may feel much more comfortable for you. You can find out more about how I work in the offer – women’s photography section.

What did this session look like step by step?

After a short preparation, we went through a few very simple setups: walking through the grasses, pausing with closed eyes, placing hands on the body in a way that felt comfortable for Julia, rather than “pretty for the photo.” Sometimes I asked her to do something completely ordinary – fix her hair, touch her necklace, look to the side. Those moments that usually happen “between poses” are often the most honest.

As the light grew lower, we moved into darker, more intimate frames: close portraits, half-shadow, lying in the grass. By then, the camera had almost disappeared from attention. What remained was a woman, a space, and an emotion revealing itself for a moment. That is when the images are created that later most often end up in frames, albums and phone wallpapers.

Technically, it was still the same session, but energetically we had gone deeper – a little closer to sensual photography. If you are interested in a more sensual direction, you can also visit the page about sensual sessions.

Is this kind of session for you?

You do not need to be “photogenic,” wear a specific clothing size, or have experience in front of the camera. What matters much more is that you feel a certain curiosity: what would it be like to see yourself in a different light? Sessions like this one with Julia are often chosen by women who are at an important moment in life: after a change, after therapy, after a difficult time, or just before a new chapter.
